The Master has been implemented with Ampex ATR 102 (Electronic Tube Ampex Model 351 - 1965) 2 tracks, 1/2 inch 30ips modified by David Manley. The Mastering for Vinyl was made by Giulio Cesare Ricci using Signoricci's analog and valve system.
This solo debut album is a selection of improvisations on standards and originals. A ‘reflection’ not only sentimental but also analytical towards the musical aproach Mazzariello had been using up until the date of the recording. This repertoire varies from Body and Soul to Over the Rainbow, to Thelonious Monk to Bill Evans along with originals written as far back as 1996 and as recent as 2019, creating a vast span of musical memories and ideas.
"The role and presence of the producer Giulio Cesare Ricci in this selection of recordings was as important as a second musician in a duet.. not only the for the incredible reproduction of sound of the instrument and location, but also for the creative invironment he creates during the days of recording and his emotional connection to each track."
I recorded this album was recorded in September 2019 and is part of the recordings that I realized at Auditorium located inside the famous Museum Piaggio in Pontedera, the place where Piaggio was born and where it still continues to produce today. Inside the Museum every year the public from all over the world can admire the Piaggio production made over the years, all the models of the Vespe and Ape, all the Aprilia, Gilera and Moto Guzzi motorcycles that have won national and international awards over time. For this recording I brought all my equipment both analog (Ampex ATR 102 Electronic Tube Ampex Model 351-1965, 2 tracks, 1/2 inch, 30ips modified by David Manley) and digital (Pyramix Recorder, dCS A/D and D/A converters). As for the microphones I used my original collection of Neumann U47, U48, M49 in addition to the mike pre-amplifier and Signoricci cables. We use pairs of Neumann tube microphones from the years 1947 and 1949 (U47, U48 and M49) with a very natural tone using field effect bi-microphone techniques. These microphones have an important history: they are in fact the original microphones used to record, among others, the Beatles performances in the Abbey Road Studio and by RCA for the “Living Stereo” recordings. The sound I can capture with these legendary microphones is perfectly in line with my sonic taste. No other microphone has such a true timbre and the ability to record all the nuances of sound and all the richness of the harmonics. The uniqueness of these microphones is linked to their ability to make a perfect "sound photograph" and to put the music perfectly placed in the sound space chosen for the recording. This is because I had always made two Masters for each recording, analog master for Vinyl and digital master DSD for SuperAudioCD. Also for this recording I used a "field effect" recording technique, natural sound, without the use of equalizers, no sound expansion and compression systems..... all this to bring the listener to live again in his home hifi system, the live effect as if he were present at the recording. Great realism, great dynamics, great music ... an album not to be missed !! Each listener, closing his eyes, will be able to relive the emotion of the performance as if he were present at the exhibition of this great pianist.
